Exploring nature through forest school

July 2025

At Little Acorns Pre-School in Fulwood, learning doesn’t just happen inside the classroom – it thrives outdoors, too. One of the most exciting parts of the week is the forest school sessions with The Woodland School where children embrace the great outdoors and connect with nature through hands-on experiences.

These sessions encourage curiosity, confidence, and independence as children explore the great outdoors. One of the highlights? Making their own campfires. Under the careful supervision of trained staff, the children learn about fire safety and help to build small fires using natural materials. It’s a thrilling, empowering experience that teaches real-life skills in a fun and memorable way.

Of course, no campfire is complete without marshmallows. The children toast their own marshmallows over the flames and watch them turn golden brown. It’s a simple pleasure that fosters teamwork, patience, and responsibility.

Forest school at Little Acorns is about much more than just outdoor play – it’s a journey of discovery. Whether it’s identifying wildlife, building dens, or learning how to light a fire safely, each session helps children build resilience, creativity, and a lifelong love for nature. It’s learning at its most adventurous and inspiring.
