Autumn has arrived, which means it’s pumpkin season.

October 2025

Here at Little Acorns Pre-School, we’re celebrating the golden glow of autumn and all the wonderful learning opportunities it brings for our curious little learners. As the leaves turn amber and conkers tumble to the ground, our preschool is bursting with seasonal activities that spark creativity, exploration, and joy.

This month, pumpkins have taken centre stage – from sensory play and early writing to maths and art. The children have been busy measuring their pumpkins, counting and sorting seeds, and even using hammers and nails to explore different textures and techniques. These hands-on, autumn-themed activities are fantastic for developing fine motor skills, language, and curiosity about the natural world.

Outdoors, our budding chefs have loved following a recipe, gathering ingredients, and making some delicious pumpkin soup in our mud kitchen. There’s nothing quite like watching their excitement as they mix, stir, and proudly serve up their creations to friends. These playful, practical experiences encourage teamwork, communication, and confidence – key areas of development in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

The fun didn’t stop there. We also invited our families to get involved at home and design their own pumpkin. From spooky to silly, sparkly to spectacular, the creativity on display was amazing – it was wonderful to see everyone join in and let their imaginations shine.

Alongside all our pumpkin fun, we’ve been exploring other signs of the season too. We’ve collected autumn leaves to create beautiful pictures, made stick men from materials we found outside, and enjoyed an exciting autumn hunt.
