Meeting animals up close with ZooLab
November 2025
It’s been a busy month for visitors. No sooner had our teddies left the building we welcomed some real animals to come and play. ZooLab joined us for the morning to teach the children about the changing seasons and how different wildlife adapts to a variety of habitats throughout the year.
The session began with a fascinating introduction to rainforest, desert and woodland environments through storytelling. The children learned how animals find food, keep warm, stay safe, and camouflage themselves depending on where they live. They were amazed to discover how small changes in weather or temperature can affect how animals behave.
Everyone (including the staff) showed great courage as they held and observed a wonderful selection of creatures, including gerbils, tarantulas, snakes and frogs. The children asked brilliant questions about what the animals eat, how they grow, and what makes each one special. For many, it was their first time touching or even seeing some of these animals up close.
Experiences like this are incredibly valuable. Meeting animals in a safe, controlled environment encourages children to develop curiosity, sensory awareness, empathy and respect for living things. It also supports their understanding of science and the natural world in a fun, memorable and hands-on way.
We are very grateful to ZooLab for bringing such an engaging, educational session to our setting.
